SACRA.
Born into a lineage of artists in Tokyo—her grandfather “Yoai Ota”, the leading painter of cherry blossoms and a founding figure of botanical art in Japan, and her mother—SACRA. first flourished as a celebrated nail artist, creating works for countless public figures in Japan. She won the World Nail Art Championship and thrived in the spotlight. However, behind the brilliance, lay more than a decade of severe depression—so deep she tried to end her life many times.
Her recovery began when a manga she shared online about her struggle became a bestseller. Yet even then, raised in a home shaped by self-sacrifice and bound by dependency that felt almost like indoctrination,
Yet, a quiet inner struggle remained:
“Am I truly living my own life…?”
The answer came through an encounter—and through the sea. She realized something profound—that life is not to be lived by expectation or obligation, but created by one’s own will.
To live one’s own life means choosing the future with your own will. Her art is a bridge to that inner voice.
The theme of her works is to serve as a bridge to the inner voice. The sea symbolizes vows, the cherry blossoms what never fades, and the path the encounters that shape us.
Each piece is imbued with a sense of prayer.
What she wants to convey is this:
It is neither obsession nor dependency, but the dignity of loving by her own will.
It does not have to be understood by everyone.
What matters is that she trusts the path she has chosen by her own will—and keeps moving forward…
